i have one guppy and today i bought 3 platties(2 male and 1 female) will they cross breed? and they are tank mates rite? Also i bought a "elite sponge filter" but it says to hook it to an air pump but it wont fit in the one i have what do i do? dose the filter need a special pump? relpy asap thanks

Yes, Platties and Guppies can be kept in the same tank. No, they won't crossbreed. But, if you can take one of the males back and get another female, as Guppies and Platties should both be kept with 2-3 females to 1 male ratio. 2 males to 1 female will lead to a very exhausted and stressed female, and eventually lead to an early death. I don't know why your air pump, and filter are not fitting, as they are generally one size fits all...just an odd question, (only thing that makes me think it won't be fitting) you are using airline hosing right? If not, get some, it pops over the male piece on the pump, and male piece of the filter...that should work Best of luck, heidi

No problem with the fish thats the easy question. With the filter did you buy some air line? I do know there are several sizes around. Did you get the corect fitting one. If possible take it back and get then to show you how to set it up.
