I agree with what sirbooks said about the decor.
I think a small piece of d-wood would look nice in front of the plant thats in the middle.

Do you have any more pics of that betta?

It doesn't look that bad at all. Maybe try a small bit of driftwood or some rocks to give the viewer something else to look at? Or move the plants so that they look more natural, it seems like they're arranged symmetrically as it is.
I do like the way soft way the light is glowing, it gives the whole tank a warm look. I'm not much for aquascaping though.

As for the plant name you're having trouble with, you can just call it a "Val". This is short for Vallisneria, which is a genus of grasslike plants.

Hello all!

Am sadly excited to be setting another tank....... Need Bensaf really have lost his pic of his excellent planted five gallon. Also would like the article Kitten wrote on stocking small tanks but my links don't work.

that aside I hoping to get the plants on Saturday(going to see Harry Potter tho so it might Sunday)

I am just going to plant it this weekend, Bensaf said small leaved plants, I only have a 9 w light bulb. I thought there was a small plant article as well but that has disappeared too?

I think actually I will put three cherry barbs in, but only once the plants are sorted.

here is a picture of the tank as it is at the moment. I am using sand as a substrate. the background is not stuck on to be honest I am not sure I like the colour.

Any how am just being a big geek. looking forward to getting it set up !!! I am sure some people here will share my excitement!

I will look for small low light plants, I will get more plants for the other tanks as well.

I have stuck the background on now that Fishman ]

still don't rate the colour. hmmm and no you can't have my video games!

My Betta tank is 3ins at the front then steps up to 4ins.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

Hi GFG !

a few inches of FINE gravel..

A good solution for compacting sand is MTS snails but hey you have a couple sand tanks already, go with something different as Keith suggests It's nice to have some variety in setups..

Cheerio then ! Time for me to run along... :88)

Edit - NOW I see the pics lol.. Ok, that background doesn't cover the back, and I want your video games ?

Ok, I shall buy gravel, I guess if I am using smaller plants they will have smaller squashable roots.

I am worried that the smaller plants will need more light, things like annubus would be too big......9W enough on five gallon?

I think I am going to the LFS tomorrow since it looks rather cold outside today.

thanks again Keith

The reason is that the fine particals of the sand can compress and many of the fine rooted plants do not like it. Anubias should be grown on a hoast and therefore there is no worries at all.

I am only requoting all the things I was told when I was planing my Betta tank.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

Why can't I use sand Keith? I have it both my 35 and 25 and ok so I have only just started to plant things properly there but the annubus has grown well previously and the recent replant has gone well so far.

just wondered.

thanks
GFG

To start off with dont use sand use a natural coloured substrate 2-3mm in size. Certainly use all small leafed plants, Taller stems at the back preferably not straight leafed (vals) Use two species and mix them up. Also keep the number of plant species to a limit 4-5 otherwise it will look like a hotch potch of greenery.

Have a look at my profile and the Betta tank this might help you a little.
