Dwarf puffers are also very messy eaters, fairly sensitive to water quality, and do much better with company. To have 2 you need at least a 5g and I wouldn't keep 1 in less than a 5g either. Despite being small they are thick bodied fish and also enjoy exploring a tank. Bored puffers are destructive but entertained puffers are endless fun to watch. You and they will enjoy each other much better in a bigger tank. All I would put in a tank that size is a few shrimp or maybe a betta but I think even a betta deserves better. Especially after seeing how happy mine is in a 29g. I never wanted to keep bettas because it seems cruel to put them in a tank so small they can't even swim all out or explore different territories just hover in place and move around slowly. Some of these fish may come from still or slow moving waters but that doesn't mean they come from tiny puddles. They wouldn't be here if they lived in spaces so small not even another of the same species fits to multiply with.

well, i will eventually add another betta from a co worker. she has a beautifull gold half moon betta with blue eyes, he is in a vase right now...un heated, unfiltered, and she wants me to take him so he will have a place to actually swim. the 2 gallon pictured is still small, but has much more room than a vase. i am going to wait a little bit though, i want to get my 29 gallon set up first, im not happy with the tiger barbs i have.

im thinking of giving away or selling my 8 tiger barbs to get a few less active fish with more personality. i enjoyed watching nemo as much as i love watching my corys. he was very entertaining, he even wanted to attack my cat, lol. i spose its good i didnt have him for more than a week, in that time i grew quite attached to him :#(

before i add another beta to the little 2 gallon i am going to get my main tank set up, so it will hopefully be a bit lower maintanence, 2 water changes and 3 gravel vacs a week suck...not to mention that barbs just sit up at the glass waiting to be fed, they dont really swim or play during the day or when the tank lights on, they just want food, lol.

again, it was my own carelessness...another novices mistake, i should have done more than soak the rubber for an hour,if i had let it soak over night it would have leaked out the colorings and if i had watched more closely he would still be alive. *sigh* :#(

That's too bad!
It's such a cute little tank! Are you going to put anything else in it? It may be long enough for some white clouds as you had initially thought, or if you could find a way to heat it some panda corys, or tetras?
I always think hexagonals when someone says 1.5g or 2g. That's what my brother gave my sons for X-Mas last year. The betta did ok in it but is looking forward to his 10g with some tankmates.

i have good news and bad news regarding nemo. the good news is i took care to place him in a spot away from chemicals, and i clean the bathroom when i do the partial water change(when the tank is a little less empty i move him out and clean).

now, the bad news. the filter i got for the tank worked well, but the hose i procured for it was a problem. the rubber o ring for the hose leaked some sort of a chemical into the tank, it turned the water brown. I slowly changed the water after removing the offending o ring, added aquarium salt and some beta stress reducing mixture a friend suggested( some kind of a antibiotic that helps with possible fungus and infections after hgih stress). my water peramiters were stable and nemo seemed to have made a recovery. last night nemo passed, he didnt seem to be having problems or in pain. at least it seemed to be a painless death.

i went into this with the best intentions of rescuing a poor beta from a 3" cup, and almost got him killed then succeeded. "sigh" i am sad now.

Cute!
72 will be fine for him, once he's used to that temperature. I wont say how low my sisters betta was before I realized that she didnt have a heater in with him but it was pretty low ()

Just be careful while cleaning the bathroom, you wouldnt want any chemicals to fall onto the tank and be absorbed into the water .

aye, the tank was given to me by a co worker who has seen me harrassing you all on the forums endlessly during my lunch breaks. the gesture was more than enough to make me want to populate the tank with anything. i currently have a un used ten gallon as my quaranteen/sick tank. someday i may set it up with some shell dwellers, or maybe puffers...or perhaps someday i will try my hand at a very small salt water just for the fun of it. but for now, my 29 gallon is enough.

i did get a beta, he is a fairly active siamese fighting fish...bright red. he swims around in the little tank quite a bit, must not be imbred much and very healthy to be so active.

anyway, i was also wrong, its a 2 gallon. it has a small filter in it with a small tube to put air into the water as it filters. its not a bad set up.

the tank isnt heated because the smallest heater i found was for a 3-5 gallon, and i dont want fried beta.

his new home is on the bathroom counter, the bathroom has a seperate thermostat so the room stays a constant 72 degrees, a little cool for him, but, hopefully it will work. it gets good indirect daylight, and i know what you are thinking, the tank is small enough for me to move it out when i clean the bathroom. no, he wont be exposed to harsh chemicals. im not a jerk.

as far as tank size, i hope it will be big enough for him, i will take the best of care of him as possible...feed him a good diet. he has plenty of entertainment, the door is ussually closed to keep my two year old daughter our of the bathroom and the heat in, but the exception is when we let our cat into the bathroom for a drink. he doesnt even seem to care about the fish(he is kind of a moron sometimes, never got the memo that fish were something cats eat),but the beta regards him with the utmost curiosity.there are also birds that perch outside the window and he seems to like looking at them, swam over to the other side of the tank when he saw them...

anyway, he seems happy, i truly hope he is...

Dp's are sensitive to water quality, if you can get them to take anything other than bloodworm brineshrimp and snails, youd be doing well. Its not likely. They also fin nip each other fish, and there can be problems even among their own kind. On the tank front bigger is actually easier, and Id start with a 10 gallon itll be much easier to manage for water quality. I actually keep my dp's in a heavily planted 30.

I had a friend who purchased a small fish tank set for me as a christmas present since he knew i loved fish. now, the question is, what will be small enough to be happy in this little tank? it has a filter and air pump, pretty much everything but a heater and i am going to check the lfs to see if they have a very tiny heater that wont be overkill for the little tank. if i can find a small set of fish or a single small fish that could be content in such a tank i will use it as a little tank in my daughters bedroom.

if not, i will use it as my "sick tank"
. any ideas on what to do with said tank?

edited for typos

went with a single male crowntail beta...i saw a beautiful red one in the store, it was all flared out, and i felt bad for it...those suckers i have deemed bulletproof.

the poor things are kept in a 3" container for how ever long they live untill someone buys them and throws them in a small flower vase untill they die.

the other thing that makes me think they are bullet proof? the plastic cup they give you had a hairline crack in it...i glanced down on the way home and half the water was gone...i paniced...by the time i got to the house i thought for sure he was dead...no water...his gills were still moving!!!!!!! i got him in some water as soon as i made it inside...he is doing well, the lights are off and he is safely in his new home...that stress prolly shortened his life tremendously though

I agree with Cory's idea,
or "Plant it and put 2 pencilfish in it"
Pencilfish are awesome.

Dwarf puffers are neat little fish,
a few things they eat: anything meaty,
anything tasty, anything that is small enough
and moves, anything invertebrate- snails,
flatworms, worms, probably even baby slugs!
I have heard they need to be fed snails as
it keeps their teeth dull.
Any pet store or plagued hobbyist would likely
be very willing to give you pond snails for free!
Heck, i will give you some of mine! lol

a single betta would be ok in there provided the water temp wasn't too cold.
