How long should you wait to do particial water changes while cycling. I think I might have messed up my cycle with regular water changes.

I have a 25g with 6 black widows & 4 platies
Ammonia 1ppm,
Nitrite 0

I've had the tank for about a month. The readings have been the same for a few weeks with no change but I have been doing regular changes. Should I leave it for a few weeks? Is there anything else I should be doing or is Less really more?

thanks

Hi,
Yes, you prolonged the cycle by "diluting the soup."
Keep an eye on the chemistries (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)
and things should be fine with that few a fish in the tank.

Cycling with fish can take a while -- It took two months for me. Water changes do delay it a bit. The key is to keep monitoring your water by regular (daily, if you can do it) testing. If your ammonia or nitrite levels get into the danger zone (check the instructions that came with your test kit), then it's a good idea to do a largish water change for the comfort and safety of your fish.
