If so, then yes, I'd say you need another shrimp (and a male one at that) to fertilize the eggs. Other than that, you don't need to do a thing. Providing a clump of java moss will give the baby shrimp a place to his while they grow, but they are just miniature adult shrimp, so you don't need to do anything special for them. Any fish that happens upon a baby shrimp will probably have it as a snack, though, which makes hiding places like java moss very important. Go get a bunch of shrimp and you're bound to have mixed sexes. Eggs are a sure sign that your shrimp is happy, so kudos for that! Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

If you provide them with lots of hiding places like small caves and lots and lots of java moss, many of them will live to adulthood. If you catch the pregnant female before she drops her young, you may have a hope of putting the baby shrimp in a breeding trap, but it would be very, very, very hard to catch them once they've left the mother. I'd just let nature take its course and just provide for them the best you can. If they successfully breed once, chances are they'll keep doing it every few weeks for the rest of their lives. Anyway...you don't really need to do anything other than provide hiding places. They'll eat the junk out of bunches of plants (I've got anacharis, hornwort, java moss, java fern, water onion, etc), so you don't really need to feed them if you've got enough plants. When she does have fertile eggs, she'll hold them under her tail, where they'll develop into actual shrimp, and then she'll drop them when - A. they are big enough and are ready to be dropped, or B. they die (what happened to mine because of stupid hydrogen sulfide )...but it's usually A Have fun |
