I don't know if these will be beneficial in my tank or not as far as help with cleaning algea, etc. Also not sure if they'll be multiplying much or not. My water doesn't leave too much room from water level - top of tank. Thank you in advance. ![]() http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v451/allhis/snail.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v451/allhis/snail2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v451/allhis/snail3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v451/allhis/snail4.jpg |

They do multiply, though not as rapidly as the football-shaped nuisance snails. Just don't overfeed and the population should remain under control. They shouldn't damage your plants unless you do get a huge population of them, and they are good for keeping algae under control. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

They get fairly good sized(~2" high), lay eggs underwater, and require 2 snails to reproduce. They are one of the herbivorous applesnails and not recommended for a heavily planted tank with any expensive plants. Given a diet full of green vegetables like lettuce leaves they will leave most plants alone and only nibble something really tasty on occasion. There are lots of planorbid species and they are herbivorous but some only eat algae while some eat plants. It's hard to say what will happen but they can multiply out of control fairly easily. They can pull into the shell really far so you may not actually be able to stick your finger in far enough to touch them but you should be able to see the different. The door will usually be a bit different color. More brown or shell colored than the body which is either black/grey or white/cream. |
