I can not find much useful information on ghost shrimp I think they are lots of fun and woudl love to have some... What do I need to know before I get some? Are they hardy or finicky? what do they eat? I want to know how to take good care of my soon to be new lil buddies!

ghost shrimp are usually sold as live food for larger fish, so they are often cheap, plentiful, and easy to get, but sometime not given the best of care of in the best health, so expect some deaths when you bring them home. Fortunately, inverts don't share any diseases with fish, so you don't need to quarrantine them or anything. If you do find good ones, though, you can get 4-6 shrimp per gallon of water before they even begin to impact the bio-load of your tank. Ghost shrimp are detrius eaters that will clean up leftover food and anything that has recently died in your tank, but they will not eat algae. They are fairly easy to care for as long as your water quality is good, they have enough to eat, and there aren't any bigger fish that will make a meal of them. A little bit of marine iodine (half the dose given in the instructions) will help them stay healthy during molting, and caves and mosses will give them places to hide.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

i had them in a tank a while back and i just made sure there was plent of places to hide. as far as food, they would normally pick up off the bottom or would get at something put in for the bottom feeders before they got it.

Someone told me they didn't think they would make it through the first cycle. Som I can't wait to get some they are soo fun to watch. Thanks for the help.

Just be careful about what fish you choose for the tank otherwise you're shrimp will disappear rather quickly

[link=Here's a link]http://www.aquariumfish.net/catalog_pages/misc_critters/shrimp_ghost.htm#top2" style="COLOR: #CC3366[/link] with a bit of info about them.

[link=Arizona Aquatic Gardens]http://www.azgardens.com/shrimpfactory.php" style="COLOR: #CC3366[/link] carries a variety of shrimp...I don't think they have ghosts but there's some good general shrimp info.

I have another question... I just bought some ghost shrimp today, and some of them have little green round specs in them. Are they eggs? If so what are the chances that the eggs will survive? Would I need to do anything special to them, or will they just grow?

Just to get in on a good thred while I can, can ghost shrimp, bronze corys and an apple snail live together in a 30 gal? I would have 6 corys, 10 shrimp and 1 snail. And also would tiger barbs eat the shrimp? My tigers are in a school of 12 so they generally keep to themeselves but should I be concerned for my shrimp anyways? BTW my tank has lots of hiding spots for the shrimp.

The tigers will more than likely attempt a nips or twon, but if the shrimp have shelter they will hide, jsut don't expect to see them too much with predators around.

corys, snails, and ghost shrimp will be fine together.

Would ghost shrimp be okay with a badis badis? (Large tank, sparsely planted, quite a few hiding spots, and the rest of the fish are too small to eat the shrimp.)
