If you want a shrimp that eats algae, Amano shrimp are very good algae eaters, and Cherry shrimp are even better, they eat more variaties. |

I've never seen nor heard of a ghost shrimp attacking live fish, so you'll be safe there. Probably the most important thing to take into account is whether your fish will eat the shrimp. Ghost shrimp are normally sold as feeders, and there's a reason for that. |

You can keep 4-6 per gallon, and they are easy to breed. They will not harm any fish, though they will hide a lot from any fish in your tank. Having small caves and lots of java moss will give them safe places to hang out. You can also mix-and-match your shrimp, so if your LFS has cherries, Amanos, and ghost shrimp, get a few of each and see what you like and what does best in your tank(s). Ghost shrimp are the cheapest and easiest to find, and you can probably get them for $1 or less each. Cherries and Amanos are more expensive and sometimes harder to find, and usually cost from as little as $3 each, to as much as $6, but I personally think they are totally worth it. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |
