Back to Betta breeding! | |
HorseGal Hobbyist Posts: 134 Registered: 28-Jun-2007 | After finally giving up hope of breeding bettas a while ago, i just pretty much left my female by a male just in case she started filling up w/ eggs. I checked on her today and guess what, she has Breeding stripes, a fat belly, and a large white pimple! I decided to put her by a different male and he went CRAZY for her! Im thinking about trying to breed them, does it sound like there is a chance? Thanks HorseGal What came first? the chicken or the egg? No really..... |

brandeeno Mega Fish Posts: 929 Kudos: 636 Registered: 13-Sep-2007 | try it... there is no use in not trying... if it doesnt work, you can always just try again... most of the aquarium stuff is all trial and error so dont be dissapointed if it doesnt work... BUT GOOD LUCK! \\\\\\\"an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure\\\\\\\" |

HorseGal Hobbyist Posts: 134 Registered: 28-Jun-2007 | ok, my new male is attacking the glass holding in the female and puffs at her a lot. is that ok? otherwise, he has built a bubble nest section and takes turns from building and flaring he never goes/does anything but that. My female seems pretty excited too, she fat with breeding stripes and flare back. sound good so far? anything happening that shouldnt be? What came first? the chicken or the egg? No really..... |

brandeeno Mega Fish Posts: 929 Kudos: 636 Registered: 13-Sep-2007 | from what i have read it sounds like they are almost ready... you ight want to try feeding them with some blood worms to also increase fertility... i would say in a few days or a week let them spawn but keep a close watch as he might try to hurt her or visa versa... sounds like you are approaching sucess! \\\\\\\"an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure\\\\\\\" |

HorseGal Hobbyist Posts: 134 Registered: 28-Jun-2007 | I have had the female for about 3 months getting her full of bloodworms, so check! i also looked and the bubble nest getting bigger every day, since i dont have a styrefoam cup, i used a styrefoam bowl and it is working, he is just kinda messy and it is underneath and around it. brandeeno Mega Fish Posts: 929 Kudos: 636 Registered: 13-Sep-2007 | the bubbles poped from too high of a current... maybe lower the flow or out something to divert the flow of the water coming in... \\\\\\\"an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure\\\\\\\" |

HorseGal Hobbyist Posts: 134 Registered: 28-Jun-2007 | i just let the female out and all it is is a chase, and when they get tired, close calls for nipping. the female is hiding now but has breeding stripes, and the male just stays in 1 spot, looking for her. im too scared to leave them alone, im really paranoid she'll get hurt. i had to take her out with a different male because of a small tear in her fin. how do i know when is the right time? What came first? the chicken or the egg? No really..... |

Then, let her out and then the male will chase her around the tank while blowing out bubbles to make the bubble nest. She will get nipped badly but they will eventually breed. The female will release the eggs while the male curls around her and fertilizes them. Its normal i think for the female to be attacked once the process is finished, and you shouild remove her once the process is done, as she will probably get killed. ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |

brandeeno Mega Fish Posts: 929 Kudos: 636 Registered: 13-Sep-2007 | injury is common in the breeding process... if the male is intently guarding the nest they should have spawned... (on a side not make ure you have fry food ready!!!) take her out and treat her in a jar with melafix... i havent had a sucessful spawn yet so i am unsure of the visual differences in the nest or anything... hope all is going well~!!!!!! \\\\\\\"an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure\\\\\\\" |
