All bettas have their own individual temperment and personality. some are so peaceful that they wont even flare their fins at another male betta. On the other hand, some are so aggressive they'll attack anything that moves.

As far as suggestions go, i think that your betta would be better off alone.

Bettas, or Fighting Fish, have a tendency to become aggressive. If your tank is well planted with lots of hiding places for the cories you won't have to worry. I would buy an extra 1g for him in case he becomes aggressive

is this normal for bettas

Nothing is ever "normal" in a fish tank if it was it would be one of the easest pets to keep.

I have been lead to believe that the "Red" strains can be rather aggressive. When buying a M Betta I also would prefer that it is in a larger community tank at the LFS at least then you can see if it has any aggressive/passive behaviour.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

I keep my betta in a 10 with osme cories. He chased the cories for the first week or so, but now he ignores them.
