Plants:
Filtration:
Light:
Heater:
I currently have him in a small little 1 gal plastic deal. Anywho I wanna give him a bigger place. Also I change his water once a week and I was wondering if I need to change his water as much with a bigger bowl?

Finding a heater for that small a tank is going to be difficut. And if you're considering any type of lighting then you'll especially want a heater to prevent temp drops at night when you turn the light off. I remember some people finding small HOB style heaters in wlmrt.
With the lighting, go with a screw in florescent for sure, an incandescent will overheat the water.
As for filtration. IMO it's up to you. I've kept bettas in 6 gallon tanks that remained unfiltered. Even with 3 gallons I'd still suggest doing water changes weekly.

I know now they are making round in shape UGF for "goldfish bowls" I honestly prefer filtering all tanks, even my 1 gallon betta tanks...and if you do, do filtration then only 50-75% water change is necessarythen again that is just what I doAs for plants, give him some java moss and watch him do a head stand in it when he sleeps heidi

I think there are heat mats for heating Betta Bowls & i wouldn't do any filtration, just weekly water changes. For Plants you can get some Moss Balls, but you still need some light for them.

I have some small heaters that I got at a local fish store. They are designed just like the ones for larger tanks (with temperature controls on top), but have a little suction cup thing to keep them away from the glass and are small enough to fit a two to five gallon bowl/tank. Currently I have one set up on a regular 2 1/2 gallon drum style bowl (fits perfectly). I have not had any problems with it, but make sure you have one of those stick on temperature gages to make sure it is not under/over heating and set it accordingly.
I agree with Babelfish on the light. I had a hood with a regular incadecent light and it overheated and killed five of my danios. Fluorescent is much safer. A small lamp, preferably fluorescent, placed over the bowl/tank might work, but secure it so it can't fall over into the bowl.
WalMart is now selling small filter kits for bowls if you might be interesting in checking them out.
You could use a small mini gravel vac on the bottom and do partial water changes, but I just do 100% change every week on mine.
You have a lot of options here. Often what works best for you will be the better idea.
