In a magazine i read said that betta should be fed only carnivorous foods, and need a larger tank, not a nano or a bowl, as this will cramp the maximum length of the glorous fins. a strong water current is NOT allowed. a lot of current will wipe out the slime coat. finnaly, the minimum gal should be at least a 3-5 gal. internal filters are preffered in a five gallon. Oh yeah, A whole buncha plants should be added as their natrual habitat is all cramped with
plants. i hope this helps -goby

the whole betta in what issue, has been crazy for as long as i can remember.

but, in the wild they are carni fish so meaty foods would be more natural to their DI track. But i havent had any problems feeding my bettas bio-gold.

With the current issue, i havent heard anything about slime coat, but you dont give a betta a strong current because the long fins will catch drag in the current, making the betta have problems swimming. Wild bettas or plakats are naturally short finned, so they dont have to deal the hastle of long fins catching currents.

while bigger is always better, i have have do problems keeping my bettas in bowls. I get what your saying and fully aggree. But i dont know many betta breeders who grow their bettas out in bowls. Most of us use 55 gallon tanks or larger to grow them out. This allows them to fully grow or a majority of their growth has been completed before we add them to bowls.

Wow, a 55 gallon? For bettas? And you can mix all of those species together without harm? Anywho, that was just a warning to guests about bowls as many betta keepers do that. And the min. gallon rate is for people with the appropriate sized bowls. Thanks again!!! - GOBY

i like to raise the fry in a 55 gallon.

i take about 10 pairs of bettas and raise them in seperate tanks, that way assuring the best original finnage.

The ones that grow up together usually dont beat eachother that bad. one or two nicks at most. there is also alot of stock with "guppy bettas" how the sib males will grow up not as aggressive, but i dont know of any truth behind that. Usually when you notice one or two really aggressive fish, than you take those fishes out.
