I got my new betta friday. I waited 24 hours before I fed him. I bought him the pellets and freeze dried bloodworms. Each time he would suck one of these down and then spit it out. After spitting it out he wouldn't have anything else to do with it. What do I do now?

Keep trying and remove the food if he doesn't eat it within 10 mins (use an eye dropper or turkey baster)

Find out what he was fed at the shop if you can

give him a few days. the stress of moving probably freaked him out plus it might be new food for him.

So give him time and he will adjust.

Certainly contact the LFS to establish what they were feeding the Bettas with. I have not used freeze dried food for years. If is used without soaking it first it can cause problems with some fish. The food will swell up in their stomachs.

I would try frozen blood worms a very small amount also one cooked squashed pea outer removed. Also add a little Melafix to the tank.

Take a water sample to the LFS to do full test just incase it is not suitable for the Betta.

What is the peramiters and temperature of your tank. Is there any thing else in with the Betta?

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

well we made progress tonight he did eat two bloodworms, so that to me means we must be on the right track. I think it was just a shock to him moving from that little cup to a 30g tank. I'll just continue to be patient with him and ease him into his new home. Thanks for all the help!

Justin that is what I like to hear from those little cups to a decent size tank. No wonder he was in shock he possibly had to learn to swim and develop all those skills he had never used. Mine was the same for a few weeks.

I would love to hear more about his home once he settles down.

Keithgh,
I would say he definitely went back to fish school for this move to his new home. The tank is nothing special just "river rock" looking substrate four large artificial plants and a cave. He loves the cave, every morning I go in and look at him and thats where he is! I can already tell a change in him, he has brightened up a lot and he is really active. He is still getting use to the pellets, but the good news is he is eating them!
