Female bettas are faster and don't have the flowy fins, so as long as they don't get nippy with the angelfish, they might be okay. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

In fact the only fish the betta antagonized was a female leopard danio, but she was much to quick for him and made a game of it. I think it depends on the betta personally, and if the tank is big enough. Mine were in a 90g tank together. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

When I used my 55 gal as a community tank, I kept Angels and a Betta, along with various live bearing fish as well (platys, mollies, etc.)... I didn't have any problems until the Angels began maturing - reaching about 6" in size from fin to fin.... This is definitely when they're breeding urges were full blown... A pair would stake out their breeding ground - and aggressively defend it with everything they had!!! They would attack ANY fish - other angels, betta, platy, etc. - that approached too closely.... And in their attack would be so forceful that you could actually hear their impact across the living room!!! Not only did I witness injury, but death of some of my other fish as well... Frankly, in these earlier days of my fishkeeping, I hadn't researched enough to realize how big these little quarter size angels would become... OR know how their aggressive tendancies would grow right along with their size! My initial solution was to separate the breeding pair as soon as the trouble began... but that still left quite a large, agressive male and two other good sized females in the community... so even though the male didn't pair up with either of the females the battles continued.... Due to the lack of space that I had, eventually I took ALL my angels back to my LFS... My advice would be for you to research the Angel fish -- and then decide if this is for you or not... Should you have a place to move them as they mature, there probably won't be any problems when they're small and young in keeping a Betta with them.... Just make sure to watch them as they gain size... And don't believe the myth that fish only grow to the size of the tank... That simply is not the case! Good Luck! To thine own self be true... |
