I currently use betta pellets, but my sister-in-law uses betta flakes... i didnt even know bettas would touch flakes..

are there any opinions on which is a better source?

for the most part i have noticed the betta is not as plump looking as mine, and the water seems to take the color of the food which is a deep red.

it doesn't really matter what form the food comes in, its the ingredients that matter check the ingredients and protien/fat/carb levels of both foods, i'd bet that'll be where the difference is

My bettas won't touch ordinary flakes, but will woof down earthworm flakes

i find it all depends on the betta, some of mine wont touch pellets and some wont touch flake. but i found this as when you feed them when their younger is what they'll take when they grow older

I tend to feed 'em what's on the daily menu which is what I first pick up. Could be flakes, pellets, bloodworms... after a while, they get hungry enough, they will eat just about anything... even my wife's finger!

Cheers and Happy New Year !

Swimmi, my own betta eats his pellets with gusto, though today or tommorow I plan on adding bloodworms/brine shrimp to his diet, have you tried those? Swimmi is my first betta so I can't really give you my experience. ..

I would try to feed them both. A day feed Flakes & another day feed Pellets. Try to vary the foods as much as you can.

If it is a good quality flake and the betta will eat it, then I don't see there being any harm. Try to vary the diet some. They do so love the bloodworms as treats.

My Betta eats a big mix of foods though he prefers it to be moving rather than his own little bits which sit on the surface.

I feed mine the granules food. I think Tetra makes it. I tried the pellets and none of my Bettas ever liked them, male or female. Occasionaly they will get a treat of frozen blood worms

I feed mine a variety of both pellets and flake foods. My betta is always ravenous (or so it seems) and pretty much will eat anything floating on the surface of the water.

One difference with the flakes is that if the betta doesn't get to it all quickly then it will sink to the bottom and for the most part go uneaten whereas the pellets seem to float basically indefinitely.

well i feed my young bettas crushed pellets andcrushed flake, also my young 4 ray betta bloats up after he eats too many pellets (from the air that is trapped in them) so normaly he gets 1 or 2 pellets then some flake, he is much more comfortable being able o swim, rather than being pulled to the surface on his side.. well he does it most of the tame any wya, but the flake helps

all my other bettas will take flake if i offer it, but they perfer pellets..even if one of mine is a little stupid, and cant focus on his food before he strikes, so he ends up spending a good hour chasing down the 5 pellets, kinda sad, but keeps him trim

bettas are carnivores and flakes aren't really a natural thing to eat, so it is not uncommon that a betta may not even eat flakes, but bettabites, kinda look like bugs in the water. so that is always good, just remember to mix it up now and than as soo much of one thing can;t be good.

Mine will only eat pellets, but thats good because then the snails can get flakes and I wont have to worry about the betta overeating ^_^
