How much room does a betta need? I saw some really cut pots at a fishstore. They were labeled for goldfish but way too small. I thought that maybe a betta might be happy in one. Also do ya need to put a filter in one of those and air?
Thanks all

A filter would be nice ~ But not necesarry
Air Isn't really needed I dont think.. Bettas are labryinth(sp?)fish or whatever

How big is this goldfish thing? Anything a gallon or over would be allright with regular maintanence & a warm room (or heater if you can fit one in)

How much room does a betta need?

I have some jars/prisons at some LFS they should never be allowed, even those so called Betta holding pens, sold as Betta tanks.

This is my personal opinion only. I have just completed building and setting up my Betta tank 11G 46Lt fully planted internal filter and airstone.

As I stated this is a very personal opinion but I am sure it is the same as many others but do not say so.

I like to consider one gallon to be minimum, and even then, I prefer two gallons or more.

The only time I use my smaller tanks now are for temporary QT before introducing a female into my community tanks or when I run out of two gallons. For the past week or so, up until today, I had every single one of my betta tanks filled (six 2 gallons, three 1 gallons, one 1/2 gallon and a bowl of about 3/4 gallon). The latter two I haven't used in AGES. I moved one of the QT girls into community today...

I don't have a problem keeping a tiny young betta girl in a one gallon container for a while, but the males just seem to need more room, especially considering that it's a permanent home, not QT.

You have to remember that the smaller the tank, the more you have to clean it. I have the 1/2 in service to accomodate an ill betta ... he can't get to the surface easily, and the tank is long and shallow, so it's ideal. I clean the tank every 2 days to keep him in good water.

As for filters, no, they don't need a filter or air. However, you might check into heaters if the room temperature fluctuates or gets too cold. Think mid to upper 70's for a betta. There's several heaters that would do the trick for small tanks, you just have to keep an eye out for them.

Good luck and have fun with your bettas!

i have 2 of my males in a split 5g, and i have 5 in a split 40g. so my smallest is 2.5g and largest is about 8g. smallest i ever did was 5g. smallest i'd go is 2.

I wouldn't go anything less than 1 gallon really. I know the 2 and 2.5 are better, while 2 of my boys are lucky enough to split a 10 gallon and yet another young man has the 125so no smaller than a 1 gallon, the bigger the better reallyheidi

a gallon bowl is nice, u really dont need a filter or air stone. but a 5 gallon would be good, for him, and maybe 1 or 2 tankmates, with alittle filter.
