Ogrt48 Fingerling Posts: 39 Kudos: 16 Votes: 0 Registered: 22-Jul-2005 | I just got home from work. The male is just swimming right under the nest and the female is across the tank by the heater. I'm gonna take her out of it right now, I don't have another tank for her right now so she'll have to stay in a cup until mourning when stores open. Yea a cup is small but its probably better shes in there until mourning then inside the tank with the male and eggs, I guess. |

Girls have a horrid habit of eating the unhatched eggs and the male gets quite protective and chases them away. much safer if she can be separated now |

Anyway, do you have plans for them as obviously you hadn't planned on it happening? Sometimes we just get lucky. You will have to move the female out or find a way to separate them. I believe the males care for the nest until they hatch then it's best to take him out as well. But I have never had a female betta much less mated them accidently! Only regurgitating what I think I remember reading about breeding bettas, I have a whole book on the subject of bettas and a good deal of it is about breeding them. /:' "If you're afraid you'll make a mistake, you won't make anything." -Family Circus |

I'm leaving for work in 5 minutes so I'll post pictures of them when I get home tonight. Also, they just did it yet again, this time they had eggs for sure, lots of little white dots o.o |
