There are Cardinal Tetras in the tank as well (see link) there is one large (all basically same age)all young tetra actually chasing the Betta and if I am correct actually making contact with his rather large tail and fins. If I see this happening much more you can guess where that cardinal will be going very quickly. All tetras are have a tendency to be fin nippers (some much more notorious than others), but the long, draping fins are often too tempting to resist (even to the most peaceful of tetras like Cardinals).
