Hello. I'm new to the forums.

I bought two Golden Gouramis yesterday. They seem hungry and are active at feeding time, but don't seem to like any of the foods I've offered:

Tetra Color Tropical Flakes
Bio Blend Tropical
Frozen Brine Shrimp
Tetra Min Goldfish Flakes (I tried this out of desperation)

Any suggestions?
Paulette

They don't eat any of the offered foods?
How did you acclimate these fish? Are they acting normally, outside of not eating? I want to rule out stress and/or shock, just in case.

If they are otherwise fine, then I'd say that they are still getting used to their new environment. I don't feed new fish on the first day that I buy them, because they tend to not eat.

If they don't want to eat by tomorrow, ask the fish store what they fed the gouramis, and try whatever food that was. If they still won't eat, then you should try feeding live foods. Fish just go crazy for live foods, they can't resist them. Otherwise, I'd say that you bought some sick fish, and need to return them.

By the way, welcome to the site!

Welcome to FP

My dwarf gourami is the most active eater in my tank. He's a pig. I'm a little surprised that your goldens wont eat, they tend to have a pretty good appetite. Because it's their first day in a new environment, they might still be a little timid and don't feel like snackin'. But within a day or two, they should have a healthy appetite.

Is the tank that they're in cycled? How many gallons, and what else is in the tank?

As Nick suggested, try live food if they still won't take to the flakes. I work at my LFS and we feed all of our fish live food. Lately we've been giving them flakes too so they have an easier transition into their new homes.

Gouramies act and look healthy except for not eating the foods offered. They are hungry and go after the food, but don't seem to like it.

Tank is a new, 18 gallon tall. I'm using a MarineLand Eclipse 1 hood with bio wheel filter. I started the tank with Cycle (old formula) and Tetra Aqua AquaSafe water conditioner. I also use C-100 Water purfication pillows (they remove ammonia). I floated the bio wheel from my old tank for a short while.

I test the tank every day:
pH is between 6.8 and 7.2
alkalinity is between 80 and 120 ppm
hardness tests around 150 ppm
nitrite tests at 0
nitrate tests around 10-15 ppm

Temp runs 78 degrees.

Tank was cloudy for first 6 days but cleared up. On day 8 I added 5 serape tetras. On day 13, I added the 2 Golden Gouramies and a small cory.

All fish are doing well except the Goldens who don't like the foods offered. Maybe they just need more time to adjust.

Paulette

I have eight Opaline Gouramies now but I have had Goldens.

They are the most non fussy eaters I have ever had. Today they had a mix of squashed, cooked diced carrot, corn, peas, & beans. They also love the disolved frozen blood worms.

Here are two having a feed on a SW fish frame
