Are there any gourami lovers out there? They are labyrinth fish too. What gouramis do you have and what is your favourite? /:'

The only problem I have with them is that they are a very top schooling fish. They love hiding in and about the plants which are on the surface of the water.

That does not mean that they spend 100% of their lives there they do move around the tank a lot as well.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

I like Pearl Gouramis. I used to have 3- so beautiful, but I don't have any right now. I was planning to get some, but my 4 girl bettas turned out to be 3 girls and a boy, so the girls are in my community tank now.

I have an opaline, a platinum and some sparkling gouramis at the moment.

Of the three my current favourite would have to be the sparkling gourami - a quiet little fish that can be truly spectacular.

Their spawning behaviour is fascinating, reminiscent of bettas... I was lucky enough to catch it on video and have posted it in this forum previously => thread

I recently rediscovered gouramis after several decades firmly in the cichlid world (except for a few years with paradisefish...still a favorite, and another laybrinthfish as well!).

Here are my two female C. fasciata (giant/banded gouramis):

I don't have any pics of my new pair of dwarf gouramis...he's stunning (best batch of DGs I'd seen in ages - all were healthy at the LFS) and she's nice and healthy. I'll try and get a few pics in the next few days and post them here.

The C. fasciata hang out in the bottom half of the tank, and the DGs hang out up top. Overall, it's one of my favorite tanks I've had in years.

Yay BigE I was beginning to think only aussies had gouramis.
There really are some good colours in them aren't there?

I watched the video. Good thing too as if my sparklers started shimmying around like that and I wasn't forewarned I might think they were fighting instead of loving.
Here's one of my sparkling gouramis. I have only had them for a week.
This shot is a little dark but shows up the beautiful irridescent blue eye.

I have recently taken to Gouramis after ignoring them when I first started. My favorites are the Opaline and the Moonlight Gouramis.

A little off topic, but would 2-3 females Opalines and 1 male be okay in a 55 gallon or would there still be some territory issues?

Big gourami fan here, but I've sort of moved into the cyprinid world. I have an empty 10 gallon that I would like to set up as a sparkling gourami tank, but I'm too lazy to have done anything with it yet.

A little off topic, but would 2-3 females Opalines and 1 male be okay in a 55 gallon or would there still be some territory issues?

Honestly, it all depends on the individual fish. Opalines do seem to be the most peaceful morph of the blue gourami, but they can still either be house cats or lions. I don't think there would be any harm in trying 3 females or 2 females and a male in a 55 gallon (I think that 4 medium-sized gouramis in a tank that size is asking for trouble) as long as you have a backup plan should things go sour.

Thanks Joe, I'll probably just get 1 male or 2 more females then.

I wish I had a better camera, but those are the best shots I can get.

Gee that first one is brightly colored Big E.

I bought what I thought were 10 Dwarf Gouramis the other day. But on looking closer today, I discovered three of them are not dwarf gourami at all.

One is a young moonlight gourami, and two are juvenile pearl gourami. Just as well I have another bigger tank for them when they need it.

I have been trying to take some good photos of all of them. The moonlight is especially tricky as it likes to shelter under overhanging plants and with a flash, the color of the fish reflects. I will keep on trying. My gouramis will become blind with all these flashes.

I'm not keeping any gouramis at the moment but I have in the past and truly enjoyed keeping them. They're very graceful, peaceful to watch, and interesting to see them interact with other fish and their environment. I've had honey, blue and opaline, also their close cousins the betta and a paradise gourami. They're very nice in a planted tank

Your sparkling gourami is very nice makes me want to re-do my 10g but then I'd have to get a pair, try to breed, then want to set up more tanks for the fry.....

I put my moonlight gourami and the two pearl gourami into the community tank. The two pearl gourami each went in a different direction but it was really interesting when they finally met up again.
They actually used those feeler things to embrace. It was very cute.
The moonlight has really come out of his shell and is now top fish in the middle to top areas. Even my flying fox shark at the bottom level thinks the moonlight is pretty cool.

Hi , Brengun , if you can't tell from my Avatar I'm a huge Gourami fan . I've had Blues ,
Golds , Pearls , Kissers & Dwarfs . My current favourite is the Chocolate , but they are
very hard to get . I have them on order .
I could take over this thread with many pictures of my Gourami herd , but I wont .
You can see most of them in my log .

I couldn't resist posting one at least . This is my recently deceased Gold Female .

What log, Countryfish? Do you have links to more pic's?
Gee that is a nice gold one. Did it have damage to the base of its tail at sometime or is that a normal marking?

Has anyone here been successful in breeding their Gouramis and raising fry to adulthood?

I find them all fascinating fish.
