A month ago, I brought home two small, battered betta girls. I called them my twin victims because they were both at the low end of the totem pole in the community tank they were housed in at the LFS. So... well, I brought them home!

The yellowish one was dubbed Helia (feminized version of the Greek God of the sun) and the blue, Selene (goddess of the moon).

Helia was, unfortunately, picked on even more by Selene. I didn't get a picture of her at her worst, but by the time I realized what was happening, she had almost NO anal fin left and her tail had been chewed upon as well. However, she healed quickly when I separated the two, and she has now become a beautiful little girl...

Callatya pointed out the large dorsil fin on Selene, and suggested she was from doubletail lines. Well, not only is she from doubletail LINES, she's also a doubletail. Not an even one by any means, and probably a cull, but she's just gorgeous, don't you think?

Well, when shopping today (I've GOT to stop doing this!), I found another girl that needed rescuing. At the store, she looked black, with white/purple tips to her scales. (I've dubbed her Hecate, goddess of magic and the night.) Well... it wasn't until I got home that I realized not only was her scales tipped in a simply LOVELY shade of purple-bronze (which the camera doesn't pick up too well), but she's also my first female crowntail! Yay! Isn't she pretty?

Well done with your selections and bring them back to their full glory. Now I know who to contact when I get mine. I have not seen one yet at all the LFS i visit which does not have torn fins.
Not being very knowledgeable about Bettas it is hard for me to tell if they are tears or other problems.

Hehe... a few of the rescues I've made.

Jezebel/beau

You can see the new pics of her in one of my latest threads debating "her" sex... [link=Female or Short-tailed Male Betta]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Advanced%20Betta%20Care/57889.html" style="COLOR: #000000[/link]

Spartan

He was a freebie... I offered to take him home, heal him up and bring him back. I was told to just take him. My sister has him now, and I'm told while he doesn't have huge finnage, he's much better.

Eos

Bought shortly after a recently purchased girl died. I had bought Iris not a week before and she died within a day or two... she was the TINIEST betta I've ever seen for sale. You can read the thread about her [link=here]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Advanced%20Betta%20Care/55571.html" style="COLOR: #000000[/link]

Hmm... yeah, I have the tendency to rescue the tiny, unwanted or mangled. Heh. Generally a little bit of TLC will give you a wonderful fish. Oh, and a dash of melafix never hurt! [/font][/font][/font]

Kitten you have a good eye for picking ugly ducklings waiting to be turned into swans. Congratulations.

Bettachris - that is SO not fair! I've got to see if I can make that deal, too! Now, if only I had the money and space to do so. Hehehe

Pugperson - thanks so much. *blush* I just have a soft heart for tough luck cases.

Very nice job Kitten, your eye for what is not seen is very good. Beautiful fish, and they are lucky to have you taking care of them.
