What would go with an Opaline Gourami? I have a planted 55 gal with a few platys, mollies, tetra, snails, pleco, baby fish from the platy and mollie, least killifish, and danios. Would he go alright in there? Or is there some bigger fish I could put him with?

Forgot to add that the left and right sides at the top of the tank are dense with floating plants to protect the babies. The middle of the tank is open.

Very simple more Opalines if that is possible they seem very happy with plenty of their own kind.

You could easily fit a couple gouramis in there.

There's lots of color types to choose from.

I'm particulary fond of the dwarfs, and many people like the pearl gourami a lot too.

Just be aware that like most male species of labyrinths, male gouramis may be aggressive towards one another. One usuaully tries to prove he is dominant, so keep a close eye on them if you get multiple.

The gouramis will be good for fry control too.

Thanks for the help. I was hopeing he could go in the 55gal as long as I kept an eye on him. I have a good amount of fry that I have no idea what to do with and so hoped he'd help there, too.

He's a lone man in a 5 gal with 2 marble snails and starting to outgrow it. Putting him with others of his kind has proven he's not happy with his own kind. I realize there's a possibility he won't work out in the 55 but I'll give it a try.

Thanks!

definitely get him out of the 5 gal and he would thrive in the larger tank with the listed fish, he will eat fry small enough to fit into his mouth, but it sounds like this would be an advantage! I find opalines to be a very peaceful and beautiful gourami

It's not THAT bad having an opaline in a 5 gallon. I had 2 of mine in one of those for about 6 months before I moved them. HOWEVER, it is a bad idea and you really should move the fish as fast as you can. I would not put any more gouramis in there. Any gourami, like a blue or a pearl, that is bigger than your will pick on it and any gourami that is smaller will get picked on. It's like putting 2 fighting fish together. I wouldn't get any more big fish, the gourami and the pleco are enough. I'd just get more tetras and small fish

I put The Big Man in the 55 and so far he's working out and helping with the fry control. I have far less then what I did before. Go Gourami! He's the last of the fish I had intentions of putting in the tank, anyway. I let the Platy population get a bit too much and hope to get a few off my hands soon.

Anyway, thanks again for the help and advice. The Big Man and I appreciate it!
