Paradise fish and pleco? | |
Two Tanks Big Fish Posts: 449 Kudos: 328 Votes: 13 Registered: 02-Jun-2003 | I apologise for posting another question about paradise fish so close to the others that are similar but don't really answer the question I have concerning them. I did have my paradise fish in a twenty nine gallon tank with a divider to keep him away from the other fish (long finned danios, corys and ottos). He had begun to stalk them, hiding behind plants and springing out to bite them -did not loose any eyes but the other fish become very stressed. One danio got caught in a decoration trying to hide from the paradise fish and later died. Yesterday, I moved the paradise fish to a ten by himself so the little guys can have their space back. In another ten gallon, I have a blue dwarf gourmari, a few small tetras, one otto and two rubbernose plecos. Would it be ok to put one or both plecos in with the paradise fish? He has proven himself to be pretty agressive towards other fish smaller tham himself and right now the plecos are not as large as he is. He seems to really be enjoying having a tank all to himself. He was small and a drab color when I got him, but now he is about three inches long, with red stripes and a red tail. Yesterday, at PetSmart, I noticed that they had dwarf puffers in with their Paradise fish. Is that a good combination if the pleco(s) don't work? I would prefer a bottom feeder, if possible. |

In the end, all you can do is try it. Just watch the pleco and if the paradise fish attacks him, just move him back to the original tank. There is always a bigger fish... |

Your paradise fish may go check out the pleco, even nip at him, but my experience with rubbernose plecos is that they'll fight back if need be and I'd guess it would work out fine. Eric |

At worst, they'll probably toussle and the paradise fish will see that the pleco is not to be bullied and can hold its own... As for the dwarf puffers, no, they will not make good tank mates for the paradise fish. If the paradise fish doesn't chase them all over, the little puffers will probably discover how much fun it is to nip the flowy fins of the paradise fish Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

If all else fails, I can always put them back in the other tank. Thanks for the advice on the puffers too. I will not get any and just try the plecos - or just one of them, and see what happens. |
