I have two blue gouramis, which have always had the normal two black spots. Now, the spots have almost completely disappeared from one of them, and they seem to be more aggressive towards each other. Note that I recently "redecorated" my tank, so their territories have been completely altered.

Is this spot-disappearance a sign of disease, or is it more of a behavioral thing?

Thanks!

Some fish are known to change coloration when they are ready to mate, or as they age. The most likely cause of the color changes is stress, though. Make sure that the one who lost his spots isn't being bullied. You may need to separate them and see if that helps.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

i thought that most gouramies change color when breeding, like they will become darker in color. this could be a sign of breeding, from what you said that it is still active, i would have to rule out diease.
