Very aggressive betta | |
c-nine Hobbyist Posts: 85 Kudos: 64 Votes: 0 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 | I have a 29 gallon tank with 15 neons, a clown pleco and a betta. They all were living quite happily. The roblem was neons do't eat much and i was gravel vacing after almost every feeding so I decided to add five spotted cories. Things were great for three days then I awoke to find three cories dead. They all appeared normal except for a deep red marking on their sides. I couldn't figure were it came from as they were all in the open nowhere near either the filter or heater. All my water tests came back as expected. I was at a loss. That night I shut off all the aquarium lights and had the kitchen light on. It provided enough light to vaguely see inside the tanks and I was trying to watch my BGK in the 120 gallon tank. I then was leaving the room and saw one of the cories lyijng peacefully near the glass and I stopped contemplating wether or not to move the two remaining cories into the 120 allon when right before my eyes the betta dive bombed the cory. I was stunned and before I was able to even get the net in the tank the dive bomb occurred atleast twice more. Needless to say he was dead before I got him out and have since moved the last cory. Has anyone else experienced this type of behavior? Why does he tolerate the neons and pleco but not the cories? |

The pleco is always inside the rock cave and for some reason the betta never goes in there. So come to think of it I have never actually seen these two interact and they have been together about 8 months. I have several soft fake plants and the betta likes to hang in thier. He always gave the apearance of a stalking predator when doing this but like I said no outward signs of aggression were ever present. I even joked with my son that he was a wanna be lion waiting in the highgrass. |

I also had the same problem, when i added some new Corydoras, but now i am thinking of a 90% Corydoras tank, with some Tetra's. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

c-nine Hobbyist Posts: 85 Kudos: 64 Votes: 0 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 | I have kept bettas in both thier own 5 gallon tanks and mixed in with my community tanks since I started fish keeping and the only other time I had problems was over ten years ago when a betta killed a pair of angels. As the years went on they seemed to get more and more docile with each purchase. I was begining to wonder if all the aquarium breeding was dilluting their natural born aggressions. I guess this little fellow destroyed that theory. |

Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |
