Hello All,

I have started a 28L tank for my daughter, and she wanted a betta, but unfortunately we have now gone through some guppies and two small angelfish, that have all died. I am sorry I didn't check the site first. :-( But, now I am asking if anyone could tell me what CAN I put in with the Betta?

Thanks.
Mary

That is a good size for a Betta tank. I have a similar tank

Here are some photos of it. In the tank are Cardinal Tetras, Kuhli Loaches, small Ottos. Also there is a small clown loach (temporary only) he was put there to remove the snails that arrived via the gravel.

Corydoras are usually a safe bet. there are a few places selling pygmies, maybe a trio of those would work?

you appear to have one of the aggressive bettas, so keep that in mind when people say 'depends on the personality of the betta'

Don't add anything with long fins(guppy tails can be seen as a target) and try to avoid other labyrinth fish(gouramis, paradise fish, bettas). From talking to others that have tried it even small gouramis like sparkling, pygmy, croaking, and whatever else common name you want to call them do not work with bettas. Either the betta or the little gouramis feel threatened and one picks on the other. It still depends on the betta though. Some won't tolerate any fish and some don't care what they share a tank with.

In with my male and two female betas i have pristella's rummies neons danio (long fined) a German blue ram some corys some otocinclus a few larger red long finned tetra and a red finned shark... the only one whom seems agressive at all is the shark wich i may have to remove if he keeps up and put him in my other tank till i get my next tank. I think i am getting two more just get one cycled then setup then I start on the next one.

A pair of cherry barbs would be nice. They have good color, are peaceful, and don't have long fins that would tempt the betta.

Hello All,

Thanks for your replies. To answer Bettachris's question, it seem to be a little over 7 gal. size tank. So, not very big.

I've decided, with a fish friend, to try 5 Neon Tetras. So we will see how we go. They didn't have any Cardinal at the store. But, they will give me a 14 day guarantee.

So cross your fingers!! :-)

Thanks all!
Mary
