Yet MORE betta girls | |

I figured it would be cheap (if they had the meds, which they didn't) and the limited selection of bettas wouldn't appeal (Petco is nearby and has MUCH better selection). WRONG. Of COURSE, I was wrong! They had a total of four betta cups... two males (nothing special, and they had a decent amount of clean water, so I was happy) and two females. One girl was one of THE tiniest girls I've ever seen. She's the size of a large neon tetra! The other was a very nice (if small) little girl with a sort of pale wild coloring. I brought both of them home. The smallest one is absolutely tiny, thin (almost concave tummy) and ragged finned. She'll be lovely when she grows up... if she survives. She's SO tiny... and I'm worried about how thin she is. She picks at betta bites but can't eat them... they're too big. I'll get out my mortar and pestle and grind some up for her... she took a bite or two of the micro pellets I gave her, but didn't seem that interested. For comparison's sake, those glass pebbles are about 3/4" to 1" across at the most. The larger of the two is in a one gallon tank, the small girl is in an honest to God fish bowl. If I put her in anything bigger, I swear I'd lose her! It's a rather cute setup... a statue of a kitty laying on her back with her paws up in the air to support the fishbowl. I honestly never expected to put a FISH in there, although it's a decent size for a bowl (and indeed, a good deal bigger than the "designer" betta bowls now on the market), I don't feel it's big enough for a full grown betta... less than a gallon, likely. To make a place for the little girl to hide (I'm fresh out of fake plants), I decapitated a cloth orchid and several leaves... rinsed them in hot water (they were clean, new, and never used) and sewed them together with nylon thread. Makes a nice little piece - pretty and functional, too. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

The photo below was taken a few weeks later, after she was settled in and eating regularly. I'm happy to say that with lots of TLC she grew, made the drive from MD to MI, and is now doing very well in my daughters' 10g community tank. I hope you have the same success with yours Lily: Theresa_M attached this image: ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

I probably could, keith. linkin - I've got a dozen betta girls now and uh... *counts on fingers* half a dozen boys. Hmm... lookie that... I've got some nice numbers. No need to go and ruin that with more, right? Right then... NO MORE! *smacks her hands* Well... the little one is alive and well today... I'm going to go feed the fishies and hope she eats. It's not that she's not HUNGRY, it's that the pellets are too big for her and the small stuff doesn't seem to appeal. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |
