Yes, that is normal for these fish. They are usually quite inactive. The best way to get him active, is to place a felmale in a tank side by side next to him. A male next to him will have him flaring his fins, as well as the other male flaring his fins too, and will be more active, but the female will make him want to spawn.

What size tank do you have him in?

My Bettas are in 5 gallons, and I find that to be the best. They have a background, and plants they can swim around it. I find that a 5 gallon can give enough stimulation for a betta, without over stimulating them....

if he is in a community tank, i would guess the current is to strong, and thats why he is in a corner. if he is in a bowl, then check the water quality. also he may be sick, or just nervous. he may also be sleeping/resting.

update: yea my guess is that since you just got him, he is scared. give him a few days.

Is this the same comunity tank you are having all the problems with (cloudy water etc)?

If so it is possibly not the fishes fault but the tanks. If it is the same tank I dont think he is a vey happy chapie.

If is not that tank we definatly require more info about the tank and its water conditions.

My bettas are primarily happy swimming about showing off for those around thembut I do have them next to each other so they have "friends" to show off for In the case of Lucky, he's in the 125 and feels as though he has to be the Momma to everyone and hurd them to and fro and all around the tank, but he is really a weird betta:%)
