if u want to breed bettas, ask your self a few Q.
1)time
2)money
if u said yes to both then, u are ready to breed.

first go out an get yourself a 10-5 gallon tank.

2. go get a male, and female betta

3. fix the tank up in standard form.( plants,*bare
bottom*, sponge filter, heater, driftwood[opition])

4. have two bowls for ur bettas to live in.

5. go to a hardware store and get the following: glass lamp cover.(this cylinder will protect your female) also get styro cups as well as tape.

6. feed your bettas (espaially the female high fatty foods) such as worms.

7. change the tank water in the breeding tank, and add the (half cut styro cup) and tape it to the side of the tank, and put the glass lamp cover in the tank.

8. [works with me] the day b4 u put ur bettas together in the breeding tank***put them next to eachother so they can see eachother and do a little water change.

9. put the breeders into the tank, male into the breeding tank, and female in the glass lamp cover.

10. allow up to a week for the male to build a nice big nest(however some males build a bigger nest than others.[some males dont build a nest b4 they spawn and they build one then they are mating])

11. after the male has built a nest the female shoud have vertical bars.

12. release the female into the tank, * she may have her vertical stirpes go away and then "fear stripes" appear or the horizantal lines.

12a. if this happens then i might be a good idea to put her back into the glass lamp cover.

13. if you leave her in the tank the male will bite her, or even sometimes kill her(rare), but it sounds worest than it looks(the female may spalsh and hit the glass, but the male isn't really biting her.)

14. within hours or days if everything is working good, she will swim head down toward the male(even if he bites her, she should come back again and again) at this point the female(if older and more expresenced will start pushing the male in like a slapping motion). she will sone start nuging him in a circle so that they can wrap.

15. the pair after some unsecessful trys make a good wrap around each other and look like they are dead, but will then start to go down and pick up some eggs(if fallen)(usually the males are first to move[but not always]).
15a. (other ways) the female may release eggs, but the male may go and build the nest not get the eggs.[this isn't always bad.] most females will put the eggs back into the nest, but then there are some that will eat eggs(rare)

16. after hours of wrapping the male or female will dicide to end spawning and you will start to see the male being aggressive toward the female(and this time it is for real).

17. take out female without harmming the nest and put the female into clean water, with meds if needed.

18. the male will "hold the eggs in his mouth" for a few seconds, but that is only to put spit back on them to a. clean them, b. make them easier to stick in the nest.

19. depending on the temp of the water, the fry should hatch out in 2- 5 days. at which time it is import to leave a light on so that the male can see the little fry. there will be fry on the bottom of the tank, but depending on the male he may or not pick them up.
19a. some males will reject the nest. for a couple of reasons. 1)young male. 2) there is something wrong with the eggs.
19b. some males may eat the eggs b/c the are infected, or the male is unexpreienced.

20. when the nest is no longer gone and the fry are free swimming and the male is losing interset, then it is a good idea to take him out and put him in his own tank with med(if needed), and feed him.

21. (your turn) the tank should be covered with paper etc. this will allow the drafts from not killing the fry.

22. the plants in the tank (if live) should provide there first meal. but when they are about 5-7 days free swimming, feed them baby brine shrimp.[u should make ur bbs when the fry are 1 day old[not free swimimg]]

23. alittle water changes can be done when the fry are alittle larger and try makeing alittle destrubence as possible. [important, keep the water nice, by adding new water every day, not alot so that the ph does not alter the fry. i.e missing vertrails.

24. when the fry are about a month old or younger and they are growing, try carefully moveing the fry into a large tank. try new foods.

25. when the fry are around three months old, you can now start taking out the males and giving them bowls to live in.

26. keep jarring the fry.
27. the bettas are now done being fry.
28. 4-5 months later the process starts over again.
now this is good, but i forgot some other important steps.
*trouble shooting*
* some females male attack the males, or some males may be over agressive. in this case it is a good idea to terminate the spawning and try new fish.
* you will lose fry. that the way it is. it is ok to lose maybe 1-5 fry aday, but if 20-30 then u have a problem with the water.
*ph plays an important role is the sex of the betta. low ph is more females and high ph is more males.
*sizes, try breeding bettas with the same sizes.
*if the males dies, then lower the water, and put an air stone in the water on low(depending on the size of the fry) this is artifical breeding. feed the fry first bites, and add water every day, only alittle.
there are probably alot of other stuff i missed, but that is the basic's.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
