(there's another fish also called the croaking gourami that gets to be 4-5 inches long) They like fine-leaved plants, densly planted together, with some floating plants (hornwort or Limnobium laevigatum (looks like very large duckweed or very small lilypads) work well, though they both reproduce very quickly) for cover. I've also found that they love to explore caves, so you may want to provide them with some kind of decoration that has large openings for them to investigate. Because they are so small, flake food is easiest for them to eat, though you still have to break it up into very small flakes. They love freezedried bloodworms, too, and you also have to break these up to make them bite-sized. And what fish doesn't love the occasional treat of live brine shrimp...:%) The tiny gouramis are fairly short-lived, though, only lasting 2 years or so. They aren't really agressive, but they will establish a pecking order among themselves, so I'd get at least 4 of them. I had just two for a few weeks, and the dominant one got very large and patrolled the front of the tank while the other was quite a bit smaller and stayed hidden in the plants most of the time. Now that I've got a large group of them, they are all more social and their sizes are evening out. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |
