Check on its profile for more details about Ph etc.

As for tank mates, you basically cant have another one of its kind, or any fin nippers. Also, no paradise fish or some gouramis.

Highest I've kept them (and spawned) at is 8.2 for the fancies

Don't stress about adjusting it, they cope far better with a high stable pH than a fluctuating one.

the more your tank has cycled the more stable the ph will be i know neon tetras like it 7.8 to 8.2 and most other fish like 6.0 to 7.5 but they could survive up to 8.3 but they be much happier with like 7.7

Hmmm I was thinking bettas needed a lower pH, and softer water. I can't get any though cause I have red eye tetra (very hardy ones that don't seem to want to die! not that I want them to!)

Bettas are quite hardy & will live in a wide range of pH. I used to keep mine in a range of 7.2 - 7.8 without problems & died of old age after 4 years.
