Would it be ok to place a trio of swordtails in a 5 gallon tank?

I wouldn't even put swordies in a ten gallon tank... you're talking fish that reaches near five inches - not including that sword!

For ideas on stocking a five gallon, you might want to refer to an article I wrote a while ago on stocking small tanks... I compiled the advice I found on this website reguarding the subject, so I hope you'll learn as much as I did in researching it! It's better not to do it. I agree with the others, even a 10Gal. is too small.

4-6 gallon

*1 Male Betta
*1-3 Female Bettas (depending on aggression)
*Male guppies
*Endler's
*Killifish
*3-5 ADF's
*Pair: Cherry Barbs
*WCMM
*Pair: Shellies (N. brevis, others better off in a ten)
Possible Betta tankmates: Shrimp, ADF, snails

Advanced choices:
*1-5 Dwarf Puffers
*Paradise fish (possibly, though better off in a ten)
*Trio: Some wild type Bettas (imbellis, coccina, etc)
*School: Pygmy Corydoras (possibly with Betta or other centerpiece fish)
*Bumblebee gobies

that was a quote from kitten's article
