Can't keep guppies alive for some reason! | |
guppy01 Big Fish Posts: 334 Kudos: 387 Votes: 3 Registered: 06-Sep-2003 | OK, I really love guppies. About a year ago, I had a group of beautiful guppies thriving in my tank, then I decided to stop keeping guppies. It was only 6 months later when I saw some really nice guppies. I bought 3 and I was hooked on guppies again. One week later, all of them were dead. No real sickness signs, just a bit lethargic before dying. Since then, I have bought another couple guppies from various stores and all have died:#( No other fish in the tank are ever sick (angels, platies, cories). The tank is very lightly stocked. Is there anything I can do so the guppies acclimatise and adapt to my tank better? Or has anyne else in Sydney had any experinces with the guppies around here? They just seem too fragile, though they are gorgeous. |

(i.e. pH, Amonia, NitrIte, NitrAte, temperature, etc.) What size tank were you keeping them in? Are there any other tank mates? How often do you feed... Also, if your water parameters are okay... I would then ask how much different is your water from the LFS? Was it a new tank or has the tank been up an running for awhile? All of these questions, if you can give answers to would help all of us reading this post be able to give you ample advice and would be very helpful in figuring out why you are having problems. Thank you! |

Lightly stocked: 2 Angels 5 Cories 2 Bristlenose 4 White Clouds 2 Platies No other fish are ever sick, the last fish I introduced before trying the guppies were the two platies - that was about 3 months ago and they are fine. Unfortunately, I do not know what the water parameters are, I don't own test kits and never test my water. Only had it tested once at the LFS when setting the tank up - they said it was "within all suitable parameters". I bought guppies from three different sources and I've had the same problem with all of them]:| What to do... I really would like to keep and breed guppies again |
