Dissapearing guppies.. and another random Question | |
Thursday Fingerling Posts: 46 Kudos: 32 Votes: 4 Registered: 15-Jan-2006 | 1) I had 3 guppy fry, about about 1/3 of a inch long. I also had 1 full grown female, so when it looked like there were 2 females and 1 male, I was happy. But the next morning, there was only 1 of the fry left. The male. I looked everywere in the 10 gal, but found no live or dead fry. I even searched the filter. Well, they also shared the tank with a 1.5 inch (Just the body size, not legs) ADF.The fry were to big for the mom, so I think that the ADF ate them... but 2 in one night? 2) Should I get a few full grown guppies to keep this one company? I was expecting a little group of 4, but now it would only be 2, and when the male matures (He's small, but is getting color) I really feel sorry for the female, I know your'e suppost to have atleast 2 females per male, so he won't pester one to much. (Being chased around alot=weaker immune system= sick= death) If pets are so stupid, how did they weasel free room and board out of us? |

I would then buy two young FM guppies. Also buy a breeding net and just before the FM is about to drop place her in the net then remove her as soon as you think she has finished. Also buy some floating water sprite to give the Fry shelter while in the net and when released. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. While they don't catch many fry or often they may occasionally grab a sleeping fish since they are nocturnal hunters. Rather poor ones but a sleeping fish is not so hard to catch. You'll also probably need another tank to fit all the fry depending on what size your tank is and adult guppies will eat far more fry than an ADF can. Otherwise if you don't really care add some larger females to keep the male happy and chances are you'll still get several surviving fry every month. |

(These were her first fry, and they were about a month old) I lost her tankmates (a Otto and 2 other guppies) when I fed the small fry crumbled egg, therefore poluting the water. 3 fry, the mom, and the ADF were the survivors, and I cleaned the tank and then then moved them to a ten gal a week later when I was sure that they would live...(Not die from some disease)Where I live, it's still winter, and I only have 1 heater.. and my parents won't welcome the extra expense. But, maybe come summer.. I could convince my parents to buy another heater, but, for now... the fish will just have to tough it out I guess. If pets are so stupid, how did they weasel free room and board out of us? |
