He is about 3mm (I say he because he has a little pinpoint of black on his tail & so must be male to be showing colours so soon). He is two eyes & a pinpoint on his tail... Please let my baby live ..../:' |

For some reason they may be stressed or something... Make sure you are doing your water changes...20% each week may help the problem Also check out what you are feeding them...is it high quality food? How are your water parameters? Most importantly be patient Fry will come, and it takes older females/larger females to have larger batches of fry You might also try to vary the menu...mine love defrosted/frozen blood worms heidi michelle Love and affection is the sweetest thing When love turns sour, it ain't a sin It's a bitter pill but I tell you, turns to bitter sweet within And it's on any street, everybody hurts sometimes Happiness is a young mans dream But it don't come easy - you know what I mean Gotta chase it down the street, right to the last scene Run down that illusion, and try to live your dream ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." justicerulesok Enthusiast Posts: 195 Kudos: 161 Votes: 2 Registered: 27-Jun-2004 | I am the only person in the world who can't get guppies to breed... I had 1m & 2f one f died trying to give birth & the other died from getting to much attention from the m (he wore her out !). Then I got another F & found 2 fry on the same day (so one of my F produced something). The fry were both F so I kept them in. Then after 3 months I got 8 fry (one male) & I kept them a while & then gave some to a friend, so I was left with 1m & 3f. Nothing happened for 2 months then I got 2 fry (both girls) & went out & got another male (3 months ago). No more fry 2m 5f. The ones I have away just keep having babies but I'm 'not doing it right'. Very upset as I love guppys ! So pretty...Actually the few I did get are lovely colourings...is is quality rather than quantity? |

RAST Big Fish Posts: 437 Kudos: 162 Votes: 236 Registered: 07-Feb-2002 | OK then. I thought my eyes needed testing! So if I keep taking the males out will the females all turn to males??? Or just some of them??? Last count 12 females to 6 males. |

houston Fish Guru You want what when? Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 | yes rast it is normal...I had one male that until about 2 weeks ago I would have sworn was a female...a pretty female but a female...he didn't have a gonopodium, but a normal anal fin and looked to have a gravid spot area...but alas she turned into a he overnightnow my poor female is being pestered by her two brothers, dear little girlshe'll have company after this weekend though heidi michelle There's still time All that has been devastated Can be recreated Realize, We pick up the broken pieces Of our lives, Giving ourselves to each other ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." RAST Big Fish Posts: 437 Kudos: 162 Votes: 236 Registered: 07-Feb-2002 | Well I was looking the tank with all the so called FEMALES and what should I see! 2 more males. SO out they come and into the all male tank. Now I went back and looked and can possibly see another male which I will catch when I get home from work. Is this normal??? I swear that they were all females??? |

RAST Big Fish Posts: 437 Kudos: 162 Votes: 236 Registered: 07-Feb-2002 | Well the boys are just about all coloured up YEH. Looks liek I have to snake skined ones well they are yellow will dots and whatnot. The other one is black at the start of the tail and then yellow after that. But still growing and getting more colour. The girls are looking plain but most are blonde/yellow colour and a few have a redish tail with the yellow which looks pretty cool. So think one of those will be used to start the breeding going if all goes well or maybe just change the tank to a all boy tank as they all look cool. |

RAST Big Fish Posts: 437 Kudos: 162 Votes: 236 Registered: 07-Feb-2002 | Yeh but I haven't got that many tanks and that much room. The 3 males seem to be going good in there new home. They all came up too me when I woke up this morning so that is a good sign. Their tank is in my room. |

RAST Big Fish Posts: 437 Kudos: 162 Votes: 236 Registered: 07-Feb-2002 | I have fry that are about 6 or so weeks old and I am going to seperate them. Now what should I do?? 1 - take the males out and put them in another tank 2 - take the females out ???? Also I can only see one male at the moment. Would it be better to take him out and hope that another colours up??? I can't see anymore males thats all. Is it normal to only get one male from a batch of fry??? RAST Big Fish Posts: 437 Kudos: 162 Votes: 236 Registered: 07-Feb-2002 | Well. I cleaned the tank out today and took all the guppies out and out them in a little tank so I could tell who is who. So I have 3 males and 15 females. I put the 3 males in another tank and the females back in the 2 footer. So hoping that they will get a little bigger and then I will pair a few up to do it all again. |

RAST Big Fish Posts: 437 Kudos: 162 Votes: 236 Registered: 07-Feb-2002 | Well they are in a Aqua-1 - 620 or a 2 foot tank. THey will be going into a smaller tank but males in one and females just left where they are. THey are in with some neons, kisses (just for the time being as I am setting up a bigger tank for these) and some BN, and whiteclouds. The tanks that I will move them into will be about 15in or so long. but will just be them until I can see what is what then not sure weather to keep the males in the 2 foot tank to make it look cool or jsut put the females back in there. Just Have to wait and see how many of each I have I guess. |

fishyhelper288 Fish Guru Posts: 2161 Kudos: 1951 Votes: 137 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 | um if females get bred too early, they still grow to normal size i have females at 2in and i bred them myself, without seperation but i sell some females and males to the not so lfs and i have gotted good feedback, but the key, is getting a great pair to start, then every month or so remove the offspring that dident turn out so great, and add a new female, and eventually u can add another male. currently i have 4 females and 2 males, the females have red, and yellow, and one has yellow and green, and i have a blue male that i raised and a pure half black that i recently bought and added, next im adding a yellow male but only seperate the ones that you dont want offspring from or seperate both, and chose after, its your choice realy, and if u tell me what size tank they are in now, and what tank they will be removed to i can help you further |

Mr Fish Addict Posts: 573 Kudos: 304 Votes: 0 Registered: 17-Jul-2003 | To tell them very easily the females will get a black spot before any of the males colour up. If you do remove the male the next largest male will then colour up. |

bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | i have heard that females will remain small if they breed too early, so my guess would be to seperate the young females, also if u wanted a better lineiage, then it is always a good idea to keep them both seperated, until u find the pair that u want to breed. |

I realize you want to separate them but really what's next is up to you. Is it normal to only get one male from a batch of fry??? I get this very often with my Endler's. I've read it can have something to do with pH but I don't think it's been proven. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |
