New male guppy, a   green snakeskin. If I can't find any other female with the same coloration, should i get a colorless female, or the closest thing next to it? Will color take after mommy or daddy usually? Thanks!

I would think it would depend on their breeding back grounds as to what "Might/Should" happen. Certainly for the first few batches of fry your male might not have any control over.
To be sure of getting exacly what you want and it has good breeding you might have to locate a good breeder of gupies via a local club.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Finding a good breeder or getting a few close colour females, that are still virgins might help alot. You also have to select the best coloured fry, to keep the selective breeding going.

Is this a green snakeshkin from known parents?

Inheritance is essentially 50:50 from mum and dad, but exactly which traits come from which fish has to do with the way the exact genes switch on and off, like Keith said. I am not certain on the dominance of the colour or the pattern, though I suspect snakeskin is pretty strong as black is generally a hard colour to modify. Avoid red fish, as this is also hard to change and remove in most cases.

AFAIK pattern and colour dont tend to interfere too much, so you could probably get away with yellow snakeskin or maybe even green grass (though not sure how snakeskin and grass interact, they *look* similar at least, but it might be a genetic jumble and give you a spawn of wild type colouration).

Haven't read, but this looks good:
