OK i'm looking to breed guppies. and the only thing I can't get accurate is the numbers. Is it 1 female to 2 males? or 2 females to 1 male? Every place I look says something different.

Fish tanks are an expensive addiction

one male to two females. So that the females aren't bothered too much.

To start off with I would get the one or two FMs you want grow them up to a good healthy size. They could easly be ready to have fry any way just keep going until you a 100% sure no more fry. Now introduce the Male. This way you will know that they are of the pair you wanted.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

I agree, you should have alteast 2 females for every male that you have in your tank, so that the females are not bothered by the males. Also, make sure there are enough plants in the tank [artificial, or real] so that the females have places to hide when they want to get away from the males. Also to make guppies feel more at home, put a little amount of aquarium salt in the tank. [optional]

I have always found for guppies that its
better to have more females.
I always aimed for a minimum of 3-5 females
per male.
So I often kept a breeding group of 3 males
and 12-15 females or more.
The absolute minimum would be 2 females for
every male.

I would also go for 2 females & 1 male as a minimum. If you are planning to breed the Guppy's in a community tank, make sure that you have some fine leaved plants or some floating plants, so the fry can take some shelter.
