Guppy Breeding / Right Numbers | |
monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | OK i'm looking to breed guppies. and the only thing I can't get accurate is the numbers. Is it 1 female to 2 males? or 2 females to 1 male? Every place I look says something different. Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

They could easly be ready to have fry any way just keep going until you a 100% sure no more fry. Now introduce the Male. This way you will know that they are of the pair you wanted. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Also, make sure there are enough plants in the tank [artificial, or real] so that the females have places to hide when they want to get away from the males. Also to make guppies feel more at home, put a little amount of aquarium salt in the tank. [optional] Ku |

I always aimed for a minimum of 3-5 females per male. So I often kept a breeding group of 3 males and 12-15 females or more. The absolute minimum would be 2 females for every male. If you are planning to breed the Guppy's in a community tank, make sure that you have some fine leaved plants or some floating plants, so the fry can take some shelter. http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
