I have accidently bred both Guppies and platies fairly successfully, well, i have six surviving guppies and four suriviving platies - i did NOTHING, in fact when i got the babies i was going to feed them to my cichlids - those that are left are the ones that didn't get eaten.

I have two female mollies, they are two ish years old and bred from my aquarium, again by accident. i would love for them to have babies, but the males i have tried with them both died in about 6 months. they have had no man in their life for a while now.

I want to give it one last shot.

obviously i need a male molly.(!)

they live in a 25g with one betta, one flying fox four platies.

what should i do to make things the best they can be?

live food?
floating plants?
water changes?

does any one have prolific mollies with lots of babies? do you do anything special??

what about salt or temp? any special plants they would have in the wild?

thnaks for your help

Mollies are quite easy to breed & they don't need many extra help. Some floating plants will be Ok for the fry, as they will have some shelter from the Betta & the Platies.
Live or frozen foods & clean water will also help.

Like guppies and platies, mollies are the same prolific breeder, note: if you want to have more babies then you must move the betta to another tank because it’s a fry control, a heavily planted tank set up is best for all livebearers from bottom to top, the more plants the better (Try anacharis and hornwort) this plants worked for me. Mollies, platies and guppies won’t need a male for several months as they have the ability to hold sperm to keep the eggs fertile up to 6-7th batch. Yes, live food for conditioning and water change, salt to prevent them from parasite or itch.

See my ways of breeding for other tips.

Yeah, the betta has to go, they also sell special fry bushes. They are like these little plants that go on the bottom of your tank, they are not too big but it basically is a heavily planted little bush. So that the fry can swim into it once born but the big guys can't get in.
