Small fish such as small damsels, small clowns, royal grammas, etc. will become food for the lion. Larger clowns such as maroon clowns, dwarf angels, etc. will be fine. Dan |

However, this is not a commercial site, so they don't sell fish, nor give you a price range. For that you will have to go elsewhere. But for info on different marine fish, it is a excellent site, that is run by non-profit organizations and donations. It is supported by all the well known non-profit organizations as well. http://marinebio.org/ There is always a bigger fish... |

You might have to weed through a lot of FAQs to get an answer to your specific question, but the people giving the answers are pretty much subject matter experts. John |

ACIDRAIN Moderator Posts: 3162 Kudos: 1381 Votes: 416 Registered: 14-Jan-2002 | Well, ok, no the dwarfs I have never heard about this happening. But I did not mention them separate, because many of the dwarfs may be too small as well, and the lion may get hungry. A full grown 16+ inch lion, can take a 2 inch fish quite well. But no, I have never heard of the dwarf angles having any trouble with the lions. So if you would like to try them, they would probably do well. I would just suggest you feed your lion well, as not to take any chances. I would only see them eating another fish, if they got very hungry. There is always a bigger fish... |

dthurs Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 4340 Kudos: 4170 Votes: 529 Registered: 18-Feb-2003 | I have never heard of dwarf angels doing this, if true, it's news to me and I'm glade to know it. I know larger angels are bad, and are generally the only large fish in the tank is they tend to rule the roost. I have seen triggers take lions down to a stump, no fins left. Lions, even with all their impressivness, are rather wimpy fish and can be pushed around easly. Dan |

ACIDRAIN Moderator Posts: 3162 Kudos: 1381 Votes: 416 Registered: 14-Jan-2002 | First let me say, that in SW tanks, ich is not an easy thing to treat and/or cure. The majority of the time, you will lose fish. Now, for the lions, there is just two things to think about, first and already mentioned, no fish that will fit into its mouth, and think in terms of the full grown lionfish, as they if properly cared for, can grow very rapidly. Second, fish that don't get along well with lions, are; angels. Many angels will actually attack and kill lions. They do this by ramming head on with the lions. I have not only heard of this happening, but have actually witnessed it on one occassion. Triggers and tangs are also a no no, as they will nip at the lions fin rays, which may not kill the lion, but leaves the lion open for infections, which can kill them in the end. HTH..... There is always a bigger fish... |

dthurs Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 4340 Kudos: 4170 Votes: 529 Registered: 18-Feb-2003 | First we need to know what kind of tank your interested in? A Reef or a tank with fish only. If you want fish, I would suggest finding one fish you really like, be it a moray eel, a lion fish, a large angel, a puffer, etc. Then build things around that fish. What this means is tank mates, rock, etc. If your interested in a reef, then be prepaired to spend a lot on the lighting alone. Dan |
