Ok I posted before about using a 10 gal.Well I think that it would be a bad idea.I found a nice 29 gallon saltwater kit for around $170.It had a big aquaclear filter, heater, enough salt for 30 gallons, and a bag of crushed coral which I wouldn't use.I want to use live rock and maybe live sand.Would I need a protein(sp?) skimmer too? What else would I need? This would be a long term project as I can't afford to get everything now.I wanted to use my empty 10 because I really didn't want to spend the money on a big tank, and I really don't have the room for it anyway, but I would like some ideas on setting up a 29 gal FOWLR tank.A clown is a must, species doesn't matter. Some inverts too. This would be my first SW tank.Like I said it might take me awhile to get it going though. All ideas and suggestions are welcome.

I was just wondering...If I bought Just a 29 gallon tank, would the 29 gallon FOWLR starter kit on www.drsfostersmith.com be ok? It seems to have everything in it other than the live rock and sand.I might be able to get everything sooner if I do it that way.I just want to know if that is efficient enough. It seem like a good price too.

Nobody here today???? Well just looking for options in a 29 gal. It's not set in stone that I am going to do this anyway,I might go in the reptile direction as I already have FW fish.I am intrested though and I would like to know what I would need if I decide to do a SW tank.It seems like I am talking to myself in this forum...lol.

Sorry i totally missed this thread. As for the $170 deal see if you can swap the filter for a skimmer you will also need powerheads. Also if possible swap the crushed coral with sand. Do a search on a 'deep sand bed' or DSB and see if you like that idea.
As you want a clown i've got good news any clown would fit in that tank along with inverts and other fish. Can you give us a link for that drfostersmith deal i can't find it, I'll take a look at it for you.

it's under aquarium kits.It looks good.Like I said I think it is going to be either a SW aquarium or a leopard gecko. That is up to my fiance.I told her that I will not do a 10 gal SW tank and a 29 would be the smallest I do.But she also wants a leopard gecko.I know about those, but I would like to see what I would need for a SW tank.It could be a year long project, maybe more.It depends on what she really wants. If I go SW then it is going to be a piece by piece deal that will take forever.I do thank you for all your help as you have been about the only person to reply to my posts. If I could get rid of my FW fish without losing my 29 gallon tank I would go SW with no problem.

That looks like pretty good deal, you will still need at least one powerhead probably two depending on the fish you want (If its not much more expensive i would forego the filter and buy powerheads). I dont know alot about reptiles but gekos dont get very big maybe you could use the 10g for that. If you want to get rid of your FW fish then trade them into the an lfs for credit . BTW salt water rocks its hard at first, but after its all set up it kicks FW.
