I havent heard of a hermit eating a clam, unless the clam is dead/dying. Ive kept clams with hermits and have never had a problem. Peppermint shrimp on the other hand have been known to pick at and eat clam mantles.....which is one of the reasons I never recommend them for aiptasia control.
