$300 from a guy whos buying my FW tank. I'm considering buying one of these things and I'll explain what I have and what I'd like. Just trying to see what you would buy.

-metal Halide's. A 250watt for my 70 gallon would be nice. I'm currently running 192watts coralife p.c. on my softy/LPS tank. A couple -'s here. One, heat, heat, heat. 2, I'm going away for 4 months in August and my wife has to watch the tank for me. Is this really going to help?

-RO/DI. This would really help out my wife instead of going to the LFS to get the water. But it would be a pain and ugly to run a line from my sink, over my bar and to the tank.

-A sump/refugium. Been wanting one for a while now, but I don't know if this would cause more problems to my existing system. I know refugiums are the best thing since butter, but thats more money and would it help my wife when I"m gone? I'd say know, cause she'd still have to top off. Plus I already have a 10g tank setup with a float that pumps top off water when needed.

Anyways, I'm leaning towards the metal halides. But I've also been told to buy more p.c.'s instead. Plus I don't know much about halide lights but I do know there is so much more positives than negatives. Please let me know. Thanks.

How long is your tank? A metal halide will only cover a 2' area. So you'll likely need at least 2 MH bulbs.

Id say go with the halides also... what length is your tank?

Actually, the halides and ro unit are a toss up.....If you are not planning on keeping SPS or clams anytime soon then get the ro unit....well, get a ro/di unit.

I see, hmmmmmm, we all think alike here. I like the halides. My tank is exactly 39" long. I'd only keep them on from 12 p.m. 4 p.m.

I know nothing about halides though. Matter of fact, I'm clueless. I get the feeling that its complicated, but I maybe mitaken. Whats the best setup? I've been told that the Hamilton 250 is the best for my tank. Thats not a reliable source though.

If your a handy person, look here. http://www.hellolights.com/methalbalac.html You can build a MH light for about half of what you have avalible to you. Then you can also get a small RO/DI unit and have both.
