Live rock for my 30gal. | |
dredd969 Fingerling Posts: 22 Kudos: 22 Votes: 4 Registered: 11-May-2005 | I just started my 30 gal salt set-up about 2 weeks ago. Right now I have no fish and about 6-7 lbs. of live rock. I want to use the rock as my bio. filtration. Is there a certain ratio of lbs. of rock to gallons of water. |

Denser rocks, like Florida rock, will require more to keep up. Look online for good deals, or in a local reef club or aquarium society. -Formerly known as the Ferretfish |

The amoun tof rock will also depend on the kind of tank you want. On the low end, 1/2 pound per gal of water, and go up from there. Most people use about 1 pound per gal. I have over 200 pounds in my 125 and still want more. Dan Dan |

Aim for 1 to 1 or higher. Your sand bed is deep enough to start the nitrogen cycle. This will take a little while, but you will start to see bubbles come up from the sand. This is nitrogen. This will help keep your nitrAte levels near zero because bacteria will convert nitrAtes to nitrogen and that will bubble up and leave your tank. Dan Dan |
