My fiance has always wanted a saltwater tank, and I have had thoughts about having one.It would be FOWLR.My problem is I just do not have the room for another big tank.I already have a 29 gal freshwater tank, plus many other animals. We both really only want a small clown and either a small blenny or goby, and maybe a couple inverts.I know bigger is better, but I can't have bigger.I have an empty 10 gal,but I know that is a bit small.Ok here's my 2 questions, and yes I have read all the other posts.

1.If I used the 10 gal what could I put in it?
2.What size tank would be the minimum for the stock list I have above?

I just want an idea.I know using a 10 gallon would be alot of work, but it would be just another everyday chore I would have to do.

When you say a clown i would suggest perculas they get to a max of 3in,as opposed to maroons which get 6in.
1)You could fit one percula in the 10g but be prepared to be very devoted to that tank. With a fish thats reletively big for that much water there is a very small margin for error. So I wouldn't suggest it for a beginner. I would suggest something like a neon goby for the 10g. Also that that could support many invert snails, hermits, even a shrimp would fit in there. Inverts contirbute very little to the bioload of a tank.
2)A goby and a clown would be much more suited to a 20g.

Ok this is replying to the post in the other thread.
Jawfish will need around 7 inches of sand bed in which to burrow. I would not reccommned that in a 10g tank as nearly all of your tank would be sand! Heres a pretty good rule of thumb for your 10g Most 2in fish will be fine. Most 3in fish will be fine if your prepared to pay alot of attention to the tank (still this will be though on a beginner). I would not suggest two small fish in a 10g tank you'd just be setting yourself up for failure, How about one small fish and a big colourful shrimp.
Also i had a quick look on liveaquaria, the neon gobys and redhead gobys would be perfect for your tank.

could 1 each of those fit or would that still be too much with inverts? I am not really picky, but I think it would be nice if both of us could have 1 small fish each.I am not ruling out going a little bigger, but I have a spare 10 so I am trying to satisfy my fiance.

would 1 clown and some inverts work? I would really like something that is more of a swimmer over a bottom fish.

1)Nope not one on each just one.

2)One clown and inverts would work, but make sure its perculas that would be you best option. But as i said before that tank is heavily stocked, It will be harder especialy being a beginner. If you do decide to go with the clown then post here wen you set it up we can help you out.
