Well in the face of my recent disaster, I'm considering an auto top off system for my tank, or rather, my sump. I'm wondering how everyone tops off their tank. I have been using a fast drip into the tank from a small pitcher of water everyday. This method has worked fine, but while I was away for a week I tried to set up a drip system which completely stopped, with disastrous effects.

I've found http://www.autotopoff.com in my searches, and http://www.top-off.com.

Oh, and I don't really want to drill my tank.

Anybody else have ideas?

Thanks

Yeah those look similar, but twice as expensive as the ones I found. Thanks Ferretfish.

I'll be thinking about which of the two I want to make a purchase from. I finally found a review or two of autotopoff.com on reef central. Sounded good to me.

I use a float switch that is used in a humidifier. It simply drips water in the tank slowly and keeps it topped off nicly. It's also cheap.

Please share the product links you've found, I need a lot of ideas to make a decision from for my new set up, which will be auto top off and auto WC.

I'm going to get one from autotopoff.com because they include a relay(I guess why thiers is a bit more expensive) which is important because power surges from pump start up and shut down can fry the circuitry, usually in the on position. Also you can use a more powerful pump, which might be needed to overcome head loss or whatever.

I was going to get it today, but it seems that they aren't shipping for the next few days. *shrugs*

I think I got it at home depot or something like that. It was a part for a furnace humidifier. It allowed water to fill a pan that a large sponge rotated threw and air blow over the sponge to allow the water in to the air. It was years ago that I bought it. It worked really well, and even if it's stock open, it only drips. So it's far less likly you will have an over flow if there is a problem.
