Yellowy sand and coraline algae not spreading. | |
BGK Enthusiast Posts: 178 Kudos: 110 Votes: 0 Registered: 12-Jan-2003 | Hi, when you clean your tank, are you suppose to sippon the sand? Because my sand is looking slightly yellowish in colour, what could have cause this? I have a 10gal tank, 1 dwaft angel, one percula clown, and several types of corals. 33watt 8000K compact flourescent. My water quality is Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0, I have carbon filtration and phosphate absorbing filtration. Another question is will coraline algae grow over green algae. Because my tank has been setup for 10months now, but all the rock is covered by green algae, they are not hair algae, but they stuck to the rock and I cannot scrap or brush it off. I have a little patch of coraline algae on a rock i bought from my LFS, but it never spread. any advice welcome. |

As for the coraline, it may or may not grow, depending on your light. You may want to add soem small hermits and snails to clean up the green algea. This may help clear the way for the coraline. I would first look at your water quality. If you have high phosphates coraline wont grow well if at all. Also what are your calcium, alkalinity, DKH, and Magnesium levels? BTW, I think your yellowing sand is coming from your higher bioload (dwarf angel should be in a 30 gallon tank minimum), overfeeding/excess nutrients, and too low of flow. |
