You need more LR You should have about 1-2lbs per gallon. Adding more will help start the ammonia and cycle.

NIC can be used in both FW and SW tanks, but I'd just wait it out and use LR in this case.

The purple stuff is algae (Coralline?), and very normal and healthy for the tank.

BTW...bigger is better. It's easier to start off with a big tank than a small one, especialy in SW. Sure, it's more money, but the water doesn't fluctuate as much, and the params are easier to control.

Not an Instant Ocean fan...I'll let Nate talk about that if he wants.

Whats the sg?

I don't think you need to feed the actual rock, but if you brough along any hitchikers, than you def. need to.

no and yes some snails that do live of the corraline algea and you don't was them in my oppinion, and yes they are very very very good in eating the algea these ones are realy good and when your tank is cycled get 4-5 bumble bee snails. As for the pepermint shrimp that is a def no no when cycling, when cycling if you want a fish i would say get either a damsel or a chromis and more live rock.

are you going to have corals ? if so what lighing do you have? i would say a good fish for that tank would a bani cardinal or a fire fish (purple fire fish are the nicest IMO)

with a clean up crew i would say 3 herits,4-5 bumble bee snails and a small shrimp.

I think 2 fish would be over loading that tank. Even one is getting up there. The shrimp should be fine in a tank like that.

it is not that really difficult in a 6 gallon, it highly depends on what filtration you have and whether or not keeping up with the water changes

Peppermint shrimp are good for cleaning up extra food and stuff. You will need hermits and snails to clean up algea. And yes, algea is a normal part of the cycle.

Astria snails are good. As for crabs, zebra, blue, and scarlet hermits.

They do some cleaning, and also are a food source for some fish.

They will do fine with flakes. They will also clean up around the tank. You can also add mysis shrimp, or blood worms. Mine go nuts over blood worms.

The mysis shrimp I use is frozen. I also use frozen blood worms. But I guess freeze dried would be fine as well. You can feed every day, just watch to make sure it's eating. If it looks like it's not eating all the food, then feed less.
