I don't think you can use an undergravel filter with saltwater... I know you can't use them with sand, and don't all saltwater tanks use sand?

no that's not true, not all sw uses sand and even with sand (coral sand) UGF can still be used

UGF as the sole filter in the system is no good, as a supplimentary filter it has its values but not necessary. What other filters are you going to put besides HOB or UGF? That will determine whether HOB is better or UGF is better in your case.

Ahh, Very good... And thus we see the reason why I don't keep saltwater.

I have kept UGF in a SW tank for a long time with no problems. The only draw back is you need to do a gravel vac from time to time to keep the detris levels down. You will also need to use crushed coral for substrate. Fine sand will not allow water to move threw easily.

If memory serves, I put 50 pounds of sand in my 55gal tank. So you should be OK. You shoudl end up with about 1.75 inches of depth on average.

Save your money on the "live sand" and buy more live rock with it.The play sand will become "live" in a while.

Yes, everything looks good, but I agree, drop the live sand and add some extra live rock.

Also, what kind of play sand are you using? South Down, ect? Is is Aragonite based, or sylicate/inert? I always recommend the Aragonite based sand, because it will help to buffer the hardness and thus help to buffer the ph and hold it up. The inert/sylicate sand will not help at all.

As for your list, I concur, it looks fine.
