Week End Big Fish Posts: 414 Kudos: 436 Votes: 1 Registered: 16-May-2004 | no that's not true, not all sw uses sand and even with sand (coral sand) UGF can still be used UGF as the sole filter in the system is no good, as a supplimentary filter it has its values but not necessary. What other filters are you going to put besides HOB or UGF? That will determine whether HOB is better or UGF is better in your case. |

The only draw back is you need to do a gravel vac from time to time to keep the detris levels down. You will also need to use crushed coral for substrate. Fine sand will not allow water to move threw easily. Dan |
