20 Gallon: Before and After | |
kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | My lovely twenty gallon long... Before: Stock: 6 Betta girls 6 Black neons 5 Cories (4 trilines and 1 Agassizzi) Plants: Mainly lloydiella and watersprite, with a crinum and banana plant along with three dwarf lily bulbs. You'll notice that the two coolest plants (those being the crinum and banana plant) are nearly invisible in the previous setup. I got rid of the carved rainbow rocks and changed everything around to get the After image: I actually bought four new rocks to replace the rainbow rocks and only wound up using that nice chunk of petrified wood on the right side of the tank. It goes nicely with a couple pieces of rock my grandmother brought home from the Grand Canyon. The left side of the tank, in close up: Now you can actually SEE my two favorite plants. Of course, my betta girls, being the camera hogs they are, decided to pose for you. That's Clio on the top left, Polly's the white/aqua one, and Euterpe showing off her dark colors on the right side. (Calliope was front and center in the full tank pic.) Speaking of right, here's the right side of the tank, zoomed in a bit: I rather like that block of petrified wood, tucked between the llyodiella and watersprite. Looks like it was meant to be with that long slab of rock for the Grand Canyon, hmm? You can see a few of the neons (who rather seem to like this new setup) and a couple cories in the bottom right. Top right is Euterpe (again) and Thalia. Erato must be hiding somewhere... Ever notice that while people get red glints from camera flash in their eyes that fish get white? :%) ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

Actually, it was growing REALLY well, then I pruned it to give to my sister for her tank... it's not growing as well anymore. I'm looking to get some more plants (waiting for someone else to decide what he wants to get so we can combine our orders) and figure out where I'm going to put them. My sister finally agreed and said, "You really DON'T have many plants in there, do you?" She's been on the "you've got too many plants!" kick with my mother for a while now... The only problem is that the tank isn't terribly deep... I'm running out of places to put things! Any suggestions on plants? I agree... something with larger leaves would make a nice balance. ~Meow. A good site for plants is http://www.tropica.com A Question, on the far far back right corner you have a tall plant with stems and Rounded Leaves. What is that plant? I have it in my tank and was told it was pennywort, but I have come to think otherwise. How do you get it to grow so well? Mine is so leggy and the fish seem to like to eat the oldest leaves at the bottom and leave the fresh growth at the top so I look like I h ave little palm tree mutations! Looks really good though. Maybe some Java fern tied to the rocks would add a nice touch as well. Looks great! Your betta girls are gorgeous by the way! My fish don't eat it, but it WAS looking a bit leggy for a while there. I just bunched it all together when I replanted it. *shrugs* It is a fun plant, isn't it? My cories like to "climb" up on it like it's a staircase. Hmm... thinking about swords, but I have to find something that won't get too tall, as the tank is only about 12" high. The lighting isn't exactly high lighting, though. I'll definitely check into it, though. And my java fern in my ten gallon has a daughter plant that can be detached... Maybe I'll do that! ~Meow.
