i guess the first question is do you want to keep the current decorations or will this be a complete makeover?

If you are wanting a complete makeover, here's what I would do:

Take out the castles and the blue rocks...and the fake plants (if they are fake).
Add some driftwood (can be real or fake) and some nice rocks.
Add lots of plants...background plants, midground, and foreground.

Try to make it look more natural (with the wood, rocks, plants).

actually, i'm a sucker for sunken castles in an aquarium if it were me, i'd keep them, add a nice twisted piece of driftwood and plant some dwarf sag in front of the buildings. take out the colored rocks for sure.

just a quick question, but what kind of lighting do you have if you want to do live plants? you should have at least 1.5 watts per gallon (wpg) to do some of the easier plants like anubias and java fern. but if you want to get serious about live plants you'll need 3wpg with a co2 injection system of some kind.

I would like to see the castle & "pretty" rocks removed also. Like GirlieGirl said, I would go for the natural look.......plants, rocks & driftwood. Personally, in my tank, I don't care if the stuff is real or fake....... just as long as it looks pretty real.

remove the plastic stuff ... It cleans up the aquarium look... alot! I suggest you change the bg (background) something with no blue... perhaps black? It makes things look cleaner, but not if it doesn't match the paint colour of the room of course! try to build some landscaping with the gravel! make it uneven!a leafy plant(live!) to cover the filter intake, but make sure it is strong so it doesn't break... Plant more heavily in the background and perhaps put some red tinged crypts in the forground! Give it a theme and give it some umph!

your wall colour looks fairly neutral so black should be ok...

Give you an idea of the kind of look I go for, here's a shot I just took. Note it's fairly grainy because my camera's response to low light levels leaves a lot to be desired, but the image gives you the basic idea.

Off topic a moment ...

Shadowtheblacklab, that listing in your signature ... I hope they're not all living in the same aquarium!

By the way, what on EARTH are "Riries"?
